Best free zone for importers and traders: ports and warehouses
If you move physical goods, location and facilities matter more than the licence price. A zone beside the port or airport you ship through cuts trucking time, and a zone with warehouses saves you renting storage elsewhere.
Short answer
For sea freight into Dubai, Jafza sits next to Jebel Ali Port. KEZAD is near Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, SAIF Zone and DAFZ sit beside Sharjah and Dubai airports, and Ajman Free Zone and Fujairah Free Zone serve their own ports. No zone publishes customs clearance times, so ask the zone and your freight forwarder.
What to compare
- Port or airport next door
- The main thing a zone controls that affects how fast goods reach you.
- Warehouse, land or cold storage
- Check the zone has the facility size you need, not just offices.
- Trading or general trading licence
- General trading covers a wider range of goods than a single-category trading licence.
- Customs clearance speed
- No zone publishes clearance times. Treat any speed claim as a sales claim and ask a freight forwarder who uses the zone.

Before you pay a setup agent
- Ask for the full year-one quote in writing: licence, desk, establishment card, each visa, medicals and Emirates ID.
- Ask which exact activity name goes on your licence and check it covers what you will invoice for.
- Ask whether the agent is paid by the zone, and whether a bank account is included or only an introduction.
- Check the zone's own price page before you sign. We link to it on every zone profile.
